Came here because someone said "spinach" in a podcast, and this popped into my head. On another note, I wanted to like spinach so bad when I was a kid thanks to Popeye (I wanted to be strong too) but it was horrible. Helpful hint to parents trying to get their kid to eat spinach, make creamed spinach, or add a pat (or 1/2 a pat) of butter to a serving. That got me, my children, and those I've babysat, to happily eat spinach.

This song proves what I have said many times, and will say for the rest of my life. They didn't write songs back then, they worked miracles.

I think there was no need to make her look like Jean Harlow. Alice was just as beautiful as herself. And she could sing!

This hairstyle looks weirdly modern in this clip. Her singing style and voice 'ages' better than other 1930s singers. She willingly left her movie contract in mid 40s, doing a few cameos years later. She had a 54 yr happy marriage with Phil Harris, and lived into her 80s.

Jack Haley would be the perfect example of how the old school actors and radio personalities spoke with that "Transatlantic " accent.

Overcomes the poor quality of the sound by the sheer quality of her voice.
